Jaunmokas Palace, designed by W. Bokslaff, was built in 1901 in the neo-Gothic style as the hunting palace of the then mayor of Riga, G. Armitstead. Since 1991, visitors have been able to view the interior of the palace, which includes two unique tiled stoves and a painted stove made by the company Zelm & Boehm. The palace also houses a Museum of Hunting and Forestry, and hosts temporary art exhibitions. Rooms are available for conferences and functions and accomodation is provided in a comfortable guest-house. ‘‘ (Latvian Museum Association)

The former bank in Harmonijas Street in the old town of Tukums now houses the Tukums Museum, which has one of the most valuable Latvian art collections of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The children's activity ‘‘Let's copy artists’‘ provides the opportunity for children to discover the painters in themselves. The historian V. Vitols' collection forms the basis of the Kandava Regional Museum. The collections have been supplemented by the donations of the local inhabitants. A vast collection of domestic utensils, tools of rural crafts, clothes and weapons illustrate the everyday life of previous generations. The exhibition covers the Stone Age to the present day, and includes many documents, photographs, banknotes, newspaper cuttings and other rarities. The farmstead ‘‘Bisnieki’‘ in Kurzeme was the birthplace of the writer Ernests Birznieks-Upitis (1871-1960). Impressions of his childhood such as the fragrance of linden blossoms in July and the autumn colours of fields were reflected in his hero ‘‘Pastarins’‘ stories. Children will find pleasure in playing with the wooden figures in the model farmstead of Northern Kurzeme. In the educational programme ‘‘Baking bread’‘ it is not only possible to learn more about bread but also to bake one's own loaf. The museum traditionally holds the ‘‘Pastarins Festival’‘ at the end of May and ‘‘Poetry Days’‘ in September. The museum was founded in 1967. ‘‘ (Latvian Museum Association)
