The aim of the foundation is to relive the ancient craftmanship of blacksmithing and to demonstrate the art of blacksmithing to the public. A historic rolling-stock depot has been renovated and turned into a museum. The double blacksmith's fire and a more than 200 years old pair of bellows hanging over it, together with the anvil and hammer, are placed in the middle of the museum.
The museum offers courses on a regular basis for all those who are interested in learning more about the priciples of blacksmithing.

The MBS rides authentic old trains, pulled by real steam locomotives between Haaksbergen and Boekelo in the Twents region. In Haaksbergen, the headquarter of the MBS, you will find the original station building, the workshop, the locomotive shed, a reservoir building with a water column, a turn table and a shed for railway workers. The stations` warehouse houses the museum with an exhibition where every facet of the 'branch lines' is showed. The LGB model train is a special attraction for children.
The museum depot is situated in Boekelo. In this shed, with a length of 100 meters, there are four tracks with a lot of material that has to be restored in future. As a visitor you will get an impression of what the condition of an engine or a wagon is when the MBS gets it and get an idea how many work has to be done to put them in active service again. In front of the shed there is another old wagon turn table that was used to turn the freight wagons in the right angle for repair.

One often associates casted tin figurines with toy soldiers. However, the collection of the sole tin figurines museum in the Netherlands is much more diverse. A lot of historical figurines right through the centuries are on display. The often very detailed and artistically handpainted figurines are mostly grouped together in specially designed entourages, so called dioramas. The late Dr. Wieringa of Haarlem, a mathematician, contributed much to the collection. His dioramas are internationally renowned and regarded as the most beautiful of their kind.
In addition, each year the museum schedules a special theme exhibition and on Wednesdays, throughout the holiday season both children and adults can participate in special handpainting sessions.

The Stedelijk Museum Zwolle consists of old and new buildings together. The new wing contains the entrance, the famous glass staircase and rooms for temporary exhibitions. In the older building built in the middle of the 16th century, the Drostenhuis, you will find the permanent exhibition of the museum's collection in historical rooms. Here the museum visualises the history of the province of Overijssel and of its capital Zwolle.
