From March 26 - November 1st, daily tours on the hour between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
From 1 November, up to and including the Christmas holidays, there are daily guided tours at 12.00-13.30-15.00 hrs. After the Christmas holidays up to 1 April, from Monday up to and including Friday, guided tours are held at 14.00 hrs. During the weekend and spring holidays, there are daily guided tours at 12.00-13.30-15.00 hrs. Groups of over 25 people may visit the coal mine during the whole year, by arrangement. A former miner guides you through the world of coal extraction, reviving the atmosphere of days gone by. Demonstration of mining machines, which work via the specially-fitted, compressed-air installation.

The Botanical Garden lies in the surroundings of castle Schaloen near Valkenburg. Many herbs and plants are located in this beautiful and peaceful garden.
The watermill of Schaloen, Sjloens Meule as it is popularly called, was built between 1661 and 1665. It is accessible from the garden via the lock-bridge. Until the 1920s the mill was driven by a vertically rotating water-wheel. You can visit the miller's house, the millstone-loft and the loft below the cap. |

The Stadsgalerij Heerlen is the municipal museum for modern and contemporary art. Since the 1950s, the City of Heerlen has been building up a collection of modern Dutch painting. The first additions to the collection included works by CoBrA artists. Early on, paintings by Amsterdam-based Limburg artists were acquired, including Ger Lataster, Lei Molin and Jef Diederen. The collection has been enlarged with works by Ben Akkerman, Marlene Dumas, Rob van Koningsbruggen, Han Schuil, JCJ Vanderheyden, Toon Verhoef, Aad de Haas and many others. The museum also aims to acquire the works of talented young artists. Natasja Kensmil, Carla Klein, Charlotte Schleiffert, Koen Vermeule and Robert Zandvliet are just some examples.

The idea of the museum is to let you experience Roman history. The excavation of the Roman bathhouse that takes 50 x 50 metres is at the centre of the museum. In a sound and light show you 'walk' through the bathhouse with Lucius Ferenius, the potter, who takes the visitor along to his place of residence Coriovallum: a centre of industry and commerce on the main road from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Cologne. Other subjects are the army, a completely fitted out kitchen, an extensive manor house, the alphabet, the making of pottery etc. Moreover you are introduced to some residents of Coriovallum amongst whom a veteran, the councillor, the eye doctor and the lady of Simpelveld.

Castle Hoensbroek is one of the largest and most beautiful castles in the Netherlands. The oldest section of the castle structure dates from 1250. Since then it has gone through several changes: the castle partly collapsed at one time, was rebuilt, extended and renovated.

"Discovery Center Continium opened its doors in June of 2009 as the first Discovery Center of The Netherlands. With an extensive collection of industrial heritage and a vast amount of hands on exhibits the Continium combines the best of a museum and a science center. Visitors can discover how science and technology affect their day to day life, not only in the present time, but also in the past and the future. They can travel through time, experiment with science and build their own technical gadgets. Discovery Center Continium regularly presents a new temporary exhibition with a current topic.
With a wide variety of activities, from exhibition to travelling Science Truck, Discovery Center Continium wants to stimulate the participation of her visitors in creating a sustainable future. We want to open dialogue with our visitors on how people make sense of the world using science. The Continium is a non-profit organisation funded by the Province of Limburg and is one of the three official provincial museums.
