The Kierikki Stone Age Centre and Hotel Kierikki are open as needed upon request beyond regular opening hours.
Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
During excavations in the early 1990s, significant findings were made: foundations for dwellings and various objects. It became understood that the Kierikki area has been an important settlement for nearly 2,000 years, roughly between 5,000 and 3,000 B.C., over 7,000 years ago. Kierikki's oldest settlements are in the Pahkakoski area, where settlers had migrated from the east along the river Iijoki in about 5,000 B.C. Kierikki was being inhabited year-round, at the latest, by roughly 4,000 B.C.
Kierikki Stone Age Centre introduces Finnish culture and tales about Finnish Stone Age life to all who are interested in prehistory.
The permanent display at the centre displays objects from archaeological findings and presents research history. In the nearby Stone Age village, you can see how settlements were established in the Stone Age and what Stone Age life was like. At the prehistoric fishing camp, you can learn about prehistoric fishing methods.

The museum, founded in 1862, is the oldest museum of cultural history in Finland. From the beginning of the 20th century it has been housed in the Old Customs House which has also acted as a Seamen House (built 1848).
The main part of the museum's collection consists of donations made in the 19th century: unusual items from nature and other objects from foreign countries as well as exotic souvenirs. Later the collection has been enlargened by items of cultural history and items relating to the history of Raahe town. The museum collection relates the story of Raahe as a town of shipping and trade, that had its golden age in 1860’s and 1870’s, and so it mainly comprises exotic articles connected with seafaring, trade and the sailing ship era. On display are also ecclesiastical objects from 17th century as well as weapons, coins, textiles and toys. The treasure of the Raahe Museum is the ''Old Gentleman'', the oldest diving suit in the world. It is made of calvskin and dates back to the 18th century.

For example you can visit a granary dating back to year 1859, a house (Niemelä) from the 18th century which has had a chimneyless hut with a vent in the roof to let out smoke, a forestry museum, a windmill, a drying barn and several outbuildings.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Kallioniemi is the childhood home of writer Kaarlo (Kalle) Alvar Päätalo (1919-2000). He was born in Taivalkoski, as a child of the tenant farmer and forestry worker Lauri Herman Päätalo. At the age of thirteen Kalle Päätalo began his first job as a forestry worker.
Päätalo’s first novel, Ihmisiä telineillä, was published in 1958. Since 1963, he has devoted himself entirely to writing and has seen nearly three million copies of his books printed. He has written 44 books, including two series. The buildings together with the objects preserved from the author's childhood give an insight into the life of a smallholder-forestry-worker's family.
