The collection has been assembled over the years since 1885 and amounts to approximately 200,000 items. In terms of scope and quality the collection is one of the most important in Western Europe. The museum wants not only to keep the past in focus but also to indicate interesting cultural developments taking place today and tomorrow. Since the end of the eighties, contemporary art, photography and film are an essential component of the new collection policy.

The aim of the Stoom Stichting Nederland (SSN) is to acquire and restore historic steam driven machines and vehicles in working condition and to preserve them for future generations.
At the moment, the SSN collection consists of some five large steam locomotives, two smaller engines and a steam crane. In addition, the SSN possesses 4 1st class carriages, a restaurant car and a bagage/staff wagon. In order to shunt material round the museum depot area, the SSN also has 2 diesel locomotives. In October 1998 this collection moved permanently to the Museum Steam Depot, on the edge of the Dutch Railways northern goods yard near Rotterdam-Crooswijk . Photography © SSN. |

The museum is housed in the former town prison and weigh-house, dating from 1623 . The events on the 1st of April 1572 made Brielle famous. Den Briel was the first town where the 'Geuzen' (rebelling noblemen) led bij their leader Lumey, put and end to the domination of King Philip II of Spain.
Not only does the museum show the history of this liberation, it also tells the story of the people of Brielle throughout the centuries, and the lives of the hunters and fishermen in prehistorical times. Many objects show the daily lives of the large landowners and the ''common'' farmers until about 1900. |

Founded in 1842, the Dordrechts Museum is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. The collection spans over four centuries of Dutch painting, from the Golden Age to the art of today. Emphasis in on the 17th and 19th century, with masterpieces by artists such as Aelbert Cuyp, Nicolaes Maes, Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, George Breitner and Paul Gabriel.
