"The Museum was opened on October 20, 2001.
Museum’s collection The Museum’s current collection consists of various art works by Janina Monkute Marks including paintings, prints, rugs and tapestries. Tapestries and rugs The Janina Monkute Marks Museum-Gallery has a great collection of Janina Marks’ textile works, produced by Janina Marks from1970 to 2001. Weaving was her favorite subject when she attended Freiburg’s Ecole des Arts et Metiers. “My tapestries evolved from my paintings, they are the diary of my life.” Paintings The distinct phases of paintings by Janina Marks represent her life experiences and observations. Starting in 1960, her early paintings reflect the drama of World War II and her emigration to the United States. Later Janina turned to a more decorative flat surfaced art, inspired by advertising and popular culture. In the 1970s, she found inspiration from her ancient roots, Lithuanian Folk Art. She created huge colourful canvases depicting folk tales, legends, songs and symbols from old religious woodcarvings. The ever-popular “Rupintojelis”, known as Sorrowing Christ, also found a home within these canvases." (Museums of Lithuania) |

"The Kedainiai Area Museum was established on the basis of the ethnography museum in 1921 by the initiative of a librarian Jadvyga Laucyte and is one of the oldest museums in Lithuania.
The Museum's collections were damaged during the World War II, especially in Soviet times, when the registration of exhibits was conducted poorly. The museum's collection consists of about 30 000 exhibits. "The museum was founded in 1993. From 1993 to 2001 it belonged to the Museum of Kedainiai Region. Since July 1st 2001, the museum has been under the care of the administration of Gudziunai area.
The exposition informs the visitors about the course of events during the 1863 revolt, its leaders, and about the priest A. Mackevicius. The works of Lithuanian artists dedicated to the revolt and Paberze area are also displayed in the museum. The museum organizes artist symposiums, arranges exhibitions and other cultural events, attends to the excursions. The museum operates in the building situated in Paberze Park. Opposite the museum, a square has been set up, in which the memory of the 1863 revolt and its participants is commemorated by wooden sculptures and an altar." The museum was founded in 1967 and was branch of the Kaunas State History Museum until 1993. Amateur ethnographers of the Birstonas Secondary School under guidance of their teacher Petras Kazlauskas initiated the Birstonas Museum. The Museum established in the premises of the cottage RAMUNE belonging to the sanatorium TULPE. In 1967 after appointment of supervisor’s post, a subdivision of the Kaunas State Museum of History established there. In 1972 in the Museum equipped the permanent exposition on the health-resort’s history, its designer being K. Miezinis, the architect. In 1993 the Museum separated from the Vytautas the Great History Museum in Kaunas and became an independent municipal museum." (Museums of Lithuania 2007) |
