Allgemeine Informationen/General information
"The Benedictine church and monastery had been built in 1754 in Baroque style, and were recently expanded with a souvenir shop. There is also a chapel close to the village with the statue of Saint Gellert, the stations of Christ's sufferings and the holy trinity, at Ivy Spring (also known as Saint Spring), next to a lake supplied by the spring." (Wikipedia)
"A Benedictine monastery was also built here during the reign of the first Hungarian king. In Turkish times, both the village and the monastery were abandoned and monks only returned to Bakonybél in 1700. The Benedictine monastery seen today was built in 1759 and now functions as a Catholic care home. The beautiful arboretum of its grounds is a designated nature reserve." (Hungarystartshere.com)
