Prerov castle was built probably in the middle of the 11th century. As a sovereign possession, it served as one of six seats of castle administration in Moravia. From very beginning, it fulfilled guarding and protective function for important intersection of trade roads and ford across the river of Becva. The first direct written reference to Prerov castle dates back to the year 1253, when the troops of Hungarian king Béla IV attempted to seize it unsuccessfully. In 1487, Vilém of Pernstejn acquired the demesne with the castle into hereditary possession and commenced the reconstruction of castle, in those days devastated, to more comfortable palace. Further substantial construction works, which gave the castle renaissance appearance of today, were carried out during years 1612 – 1615 under Charles the elder of Zerotín. Last owners of the castle – the Magnis – agreed with the utilization of the object as a seat of municipal authorities. In 1918, they sold it to Prerov municipality. During the years 1928 – 1930, complete reconstruction of whole building was realized and the collections of Municipal Museum and Comenius Museum were located there. Up to now, it serves as an exhibition space and a depository of Prerov museum.

Former Jewish synagogue was built on the site of an older building in the 1860s in Moorish-Byzantine style. Today it is in possession of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Since 1943 it has served the purposes of the Museum and since reconstruction in 1994-5, the City Museum and Gallery have used it for exhibitions with an orientation towards modern Czech and Slovak plastic arts. Occasionally, they give concerts of classical music, both instrumental and choral, featuring Czech plastic arts.
