The herbarium collection is a scientific collection comprising over 960 000 specimens (2006). It embraces vascular plants, lichenized and non-lichenized fungi, mosses and algae.
The collection is worldwide. Important collections originate from Angola, Antarctica, Antilles, Balkan, Brasil, Canada, Canary Islands, California, Chile, East Africa, Hawaii, Jan Mayen, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Mozambique, Near East, Norway, Novaya Zemlya, Philippines, Siberia, South Africa, Sweden, Tahiti, Thailand, Western Amazonia. In Finland, collection activity concentrates in SW Finland and in Inari Lapland.

Forum Marinum is a national special museum specialising in merchant shipping and naval history and also an active maritime centre. It collects, maintains, researches and interprets objects, archive material and traditions relating to Southwestern Finlands merchant shipping and naval history.
The collections of Forum Marinum consist partly of the collections originally acquired by the Åbo Akademi University Museum of Maritime History, the Turku Provincial Museum and the Bore Shipping Company. The collection contains many different kinds of objects including a steel-hulled full-rigger.
The permanent exhibition is located in the Kruununmakasiini, Crown Granary, erected in 1894. Its focus is on the maritime history of Southwestern Finland and the history of the Finnish Navy. Special themes are the shipping companies, ship types, rural culture of the archipelago, rural seafaring, freight and passenger shipping, Maritime Administration, Coast Guard and Customs and also the history of the Finnish Navy during the time of Independence.
The non-permanent exhibitions are located in the Linnanpuomi building, originally built as a warehouse for the SOK-cooperative in the beginning of the 1930's. This building also includes a display of materials and tools required in the construction of ships and boats as well as several boats.
The Maritime Centre also houses the the Åbo Akademi University Institute of Maritime History and the Museumship Sigyn Foundation.

The Turku Provincial Museum was established in 1881 and is the largest central regional museum in Finland. The original aim of the museum was to write the history of the City and collect materials to support the writing process. Turku Castle, Turku Biological Museum, Kylämäki - Village of Living History, Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum, the Pharmacy Museum and the Qwensel House are all part of Turku Provincial Museum.

The museum is situated in a wooden empire style building. The age and style of the different artefacts vary, but as a whole ``Ett hem`` (``A home``) is decorated according to the neorenaissance principles. The museum has both a cultural and historical value. Especially important is the art collection, where most of the famous Finnish artists of the period around 1900 are represented.

The Kuralan Kylämäki Village is an ideal tourism attraction for families with children. The village has 26 buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries and a fully functional 1950's style farm with chickens, cows and sheep. Kurala also has a wilderness valley, where visitors can venture with the lead of the hunting bailiff. At the Kylämäki Village, touching and experiencing is allowed. Old items and costumes found from around the region are reconstructed at the archaeological experimentation workshop.

The Qwensel House is the oldest bourgeois housing from the autarchic times that has survived in its entirety. A pharmacy from the 17th century has been furnished in the shop wing of the building. The pharmacy has a material room and a herb room, two laboratories and an office. The office has the oldest survived pharmacy interior in Finland. The former stable, toilet and barn are located at the northern end of the Pakaritupa wing of the building.

Turku Castle is over 700 years old. The Castle has a museum, which demonstrates the history of the Turku region from prehistory to present day with its frequent exhibitions, events and furnished style rooms. The Main Castle has treasures from the collections on display: ceramics, jewelry, costumes, demotic textiles, furniture and toys. The old Castle Cottage has an exhibition about the castle's construction history with miniature models.
The Pre-Castle has exhibitions about the History of the City of Turku and furnishing of the 16th to 18th centuries. There are also the dungeons of the Round Tower and the Money and Medallion Cabinet.
