Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The castle, built by the nobleman and fanatical art collector C.H.C.A. van Sypesteyn (1857-1937), is one of the youngest castles in the Netherlands. Originally built to honor generations of Van Sypesteyns, it was also meant as a museum. For years Van Sypesteyn bought and sold all types of objects. Due to financial difficulties, today only a tenth of the collection remains. This part, which still represents one of the richest private collections in the Netherlands, is to be admired in the museum. The collection consists of family portraits, porcelain, clocks, silver, glass and sculptures. Porcelain holds an important place in the museum, not only Chinese porcelain but also porcelain made in Germany and Holland during the 18th century. A special place is reserved for porcelain made in Loosdrecht. which was manufactured for a period of ten years only.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The medieval residence De Haar was founded in the course of the fourteenth century, on sediment deposits along a blind arm of the river Rhine. De Haar was entirely restored and partially rebuilt more than 100 years ago now, resulting in a restoration unparalleled in Europe. This involves not only the architecture, but also the interior and the gardens. Even the church and the village were involved in this project.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Utrecht’s Centraal Museum was founded in 1838, which makes it the oldest municipal museum in the Netherlands. The museum has a large and varied collection of art divided into five departments: old masters, modern art, design, fashion and local history.
The collection of visual and applied art is displayed in specially designed rooms. The world's largest Rietveld collection is housed here, along with an overview collection of Dick Bruna, one of Holland's famous illustrators. Other highlights are the 16th and 17th century collection of Utrecht masters, an overview of the history of Utrecht, fashion design, and a large collection of early 20th century art. The modern art collection provides a broad survey of Dutch visual art of the twentieth century, featuring work by Van Doesburg, Van der Leck and the Magic Realists Koch, Willink and Moesman.
The Centraal Museum is housed in a former medieval cloister. But parts of the building have also served as an orphanage, military stable and a psychiatric hospital. The outline of the Agnieten Convent can be seen in the center of the museum, which is known for its collection of paintings mostly from the 16th-17th century Utrecht School. Among the highlights of the old masters are works by Saenredam, Van Scorel and the Utrecht Caravaggists, including Ter Brugghen and Van Honthorst. The painters were called Caravaggists, because they painted in the same manner as the Italian painter Caravaggio.
Next to an extensive collection of paintings you will find an authentic Viking Ship, which dates back to the 12th century. Another sure-to-please piece is a model 'doll house' of 1680.
The Centraal Museum also holds three special collections: the H&F Collection, the Collection of contemporary drawing of the Province of Utrecht and the Van Baaren Collection.
