A. M. de Jong was the writer of the famous Dutch comic 'Bulletje en Boonestaak'. This comic, about two rascals, lent itself perfectly for venting his ideas on colonialism, imperialism, capitalism and militarism in such a way, that it was still readable for old and young alike. Not everyone liked his controversial texts, and already in 1923 he had to stand up to worried pedagogues. Nevertheless, the series continued on as a great success until 1937.
De Jong continued his collaboration with his artist friend George van Raemdonck on the comic 'Appelsnoet en Goudbaard', which appeared between 1925 and 1927. He also wrote numerous articles, novels, children's books, translations, and radio plays. In 1943, during one of the infamous 'Silbertanne' actions, he was shot by two SS soldiers in his own home.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The museum owes its creation to Brother Christofoor van Langen, member of the Congregation of Saint Louis in Oudenbosch and for many years teacher of history at the local teachers training college. He was keenly interested in the history of the papal Zouaves and collected all the documents and items he could find on the subject.
His extensive collection of authentic uniforms, paintings, banners and numerous personal letters, photographs, petitions, diaries, letters of discharge, and decorations is housed in the former town hall, dating from 1776.

De Pont is actually one of the most visited museums in the southern region of the Netherlands. The museum policy focuses on a limited group of artists and on long presentations of both the collection and temporary exhibitions. The number of works in the constantly increasing collection was about four hundred by the beginning of 2006. The major part of the purchases were made from the temporary exhibitions organized at De Pont.

How do weavers, spinners, women who did the rinsing, overseers, migrant labourers and directors look back on their work in the Dutch textile industry? What caused the decline of the textile industry during the nineteen fifties and sixties? What kind of people now work in the textile industry? These and many other questions are answered in this special multi-media exhibition.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The house was build in 1882 by Adriaan Stads using materials from an old farm that stood there for centuries. The owner used his house as a workplace of a cartwright and also exploited it as an inn. He had a little farm there as well.
Later the building was used as a shop. The community bought the shop and gave it to the association of local history ''De Vyer Heertganghen''. It was then transformed it to a museum giving an image of the development of Goirle and the way people lived there in the past. It has a collection of archeological, historical and religious objects. In addition, temporary exhibitions on historical and cultural themes are regularly shown.
The building together with an old weaver cottage, a cardshed and a typical old barn of Brabant, forms ''De Schutsboom''. When you translate it it means a tree to shoot at. It is a long pole with a wooden bird on it standing in the yard of the house. In the past the civilian guard used it to practice their shooting abilities or for shooting competitions.
A colorful botanical garden with a bee room, an old well, the typical yard plants and the nearby windmill, make the farmyard a quit and beautiful place to be.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The museum tells the history of the Second World War in Europe and in Asia. In the former Dutch East Indies a lot of Dutch people suffered from the Japanese occupation. Almost the same thing happened in more countries in Asia, to name for example the Burma railway, or the death railway, where a lot of British, Australian, American and Dutch suffered, alongside the Asian workers. For the Dutch, this was going on till about 1949. In the end of December 1949, Indonesia got its independence.
The museum has an extensive collection of WWII and former Netherlands/Dutch East Indies and is part of the International Network of Museums for Peace.
