Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Svindersvik, is one of the best preserved rococo estates in Sweden and a unique precursor to the merchants' villas and the summer retreats of today.

The great rococo architect Carl Hårleman designed the main building as a country residence for the wealthy Grill family in the 1740s. Silk manufacturer K. A. Almgren bought Svindersvik towards the late nineteenth century and spent his summers at the country residence.

Rococo-style Country Residence

A small building, a kitchen wing, a pavilion with a big assembly hall and a few small, red cottages for servants, horses and carriages - that is Svindersvik. The symmetric design of the inside of the house followed the French style that was fashionable at the time. The rooms have tiled stoves from the eighteenth century and silkcovered furniture. The pavilion has a magnificent assembly hall with decorated walls, what must be the tallest tiled stove in the country and a suite of guest rooms, all beautifully furnished.

The Garden
The French influence is evident outside too. The Svindersvik garden with the old knotty eighteenth-century apple trees was designed in accordance with the prevailing fashion of symmetry.

Svindersvik is a magnificently preserved residence, partly because it was only ever used in the summers but also because it was left to Nordiska museet in the 1940s. Anyone who visits Svindersvik will be taken in with the idyllic atmosphere of this eighteenth-century gem.

A rather unique and very interesting outboard museum is opened in Nävekvarn. More than 50 motors and a number of boats are on display. You will be able to study a selection of Swedish motors from the pioneering days: Archimedes, Penta and Crescent, with American motors: Johnson, Evinrude, OMC, Mercury added with the latest Japanese outboards.

This museum have arised through idealistic work by the members in "The Development Association of Nävekvarn", Nävekvarns Boatclub, the privatecollector Lars Einar (member of MYS, MSF and AOMCI) among others.
For the restauration of the space in the old 19:th century building EU have contributed with money through "Leader+" who supports developing projects in areas of low population.
Who built the first outboard engine? There are differing opinions on this but the Norwegian/American, Ole Evinrude was undoubtly the first to produce engines on a large scale. The patent for his engine wa registred in 1910. One such "row boat engine" is the oldest in our cavalcade from the outboard engines first century.
Our collection of about 70 engines has been selected to show both technical development and design. The sucessfull swedish brands like Archimedes and Penta have naturally been given pride of place.

Tullgarn Palace near Trosa in Sörmland is one of the most popular royal destinations. This royal summer palace - just an hour´s car journey from Stockholm - offers visitors a solace for the body and soul.

Behind the austere façade is a surprisingly light interior in a mixture of rococo, Gustavian and Victorian styles.

Tullgarn is associated with King Gustaf V and Queen Victoria, who spend their summers here at the end of the 1800s and beginning of the 1900s. However, the palace was originally built for Duke Fredrik Adolf in the 1770s.

Admire the Duke's interior design - one of Sweden's finest. Rest for a moment in the courtyard and breath in the fresh lake winds. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the stable café or the Orangery. Or have a relaxing picnic beside one of the dams. Tullgarn is well-worth a visit.
The palace is open during the summer season with daily guided tours.

Experience a top secret Cold War coastal artillery fortress

Built into the rock below Oxelosund in Sweden is a huge nuclear safe bunker, from which 70 soldiers could defend this part of Sweden against an invasion from the Soviet Union and the Warzaw Pact. The Femore Fortress was built in 1964, in operation until 1998 and abandoned in 2003.

Visit The Femore Fortress

Visit the guns both above and below ground. See how the shells were transported up to the turret. See how the command post directed the fire of the guns. Experience how it was to live in the fortress. See the power generators and the repair workshops. Look at the sleeping quarters, sanitary facilities and the kitchen.
Over 450 meters of tunnel system links the different parts within the fortress, which is protected by at least 8 meters of granite and concrete.
An exhibition shows Sweden during the Cold War.
In-depth special guided tours are available during summer.
Café and souvenirs are available.

The nearby Femore Lighthouse Cottages are suitable for smaller conferences and an overnight stay.
