Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Nowadays the Regional Museum Teplice is one of the museums, which are under the control of the Czech Ministry of Culture. In its collections there are 3/4 million articles and 5 departments attend to them. The natural historical department with its geological and zoological workplaces documents the development of natural conditions in Northwest Bohemia and their change, which followed from the civilisation processes. The archaeological department is concentrated on the development of the settlement in the region and practices the field studying in the coal-mining area. The department of history takes care of historical, ethnographic, numismatic and art historical collections. It is engaged in economic political, cultural and social develop-ments of the region, in changing way of life and life environment. Great attention is paid to the documentation of glass industry, ceramics, petering and balneology. The library sets up funds of professional and regional literature, collections of old and rare prints and has the charge of two historical library units. The department of museum services, whose tasks are also photographic documentation and arranging exhibitions and expositions, does the conversation and restoration of the collections.
from the history:
In 1894 the Museum Society was established at Teplice when on 7th December 1897 opened a museum in School Street /Školní ulice/ No 17. The museum resided here till 1905 when it moved to the Trade House /nowadays the building of the District Archives/. The original collection fund consisted of articles bought from the many-sided collector A.H. Fassl who had already displayed them for the public in 1873. The Museum Society formulated their programme towards to the development of industrialisation in the Teplice region and they designated three main tasks for the museum. In addition to usual collecting Local and national documentation the museum should help to increase the efforts in improving technological and aesthetic standard of ceramic and glass production by means of their collections and. preserve archaeological relics found every day in coal mining and another under-ground work. For decades this orientation influenced the work of the museum which was considered one of the best and largest country museums in Bohemia. In I945 the museum was taken over by the town-council administration and in 1947 it was given the right of using the Clary-Aldringens´ chateau. Later it was subordinated to the administration of the Northbohemian Regional Committee and performed the regional function.
