The Cable Factory is the largest cultural centre in Finland. It houses 3 museums, 13 galleries, dance theatres, art schools and a host of artists, bands and companies. Many unique spaces are also available for rent on a short-term basis to stage concerts, exhibitions, festivals and fairs. Around 900 people work at Kaapeli on a daily basis, and each year over 200,000 people attend special events.

The Cable Factory covers a total area of over 53,000 square metres, of which 35,000 square metres are rented out to over 250 tenants on a long-term basis. The five largest spaces are rented out on daily basis for special events. Foyers, corridors and staircases alone cover an area of over 7500 square metres. When completed in 1954, the Cable Factory was the largest building in Finland.

The Cable Factory occupies the premises of an old factory which initially produced telephone and electrical cables. The building converted in 1991 into a fully independent cultural centre aimed at providing an area of artistic diversity with cross-cultural linkages. The Cable Factory offers permanent and short-term space for different fields and forms of art and education.

The Cable Factory is a member of TransEuropeHalles, a European network of 49 independent culture centres in 25 countries.

The company Kiinteistö Oy Kaapelitalo is responsible for renting, maintaining and developing the facilities. Kiinteistö Oy Kaapelitalo is owned by the City of Helsinki.

From the beginning of 2008 the company has also administered the historic power plant area in Suvilahti, which will develop over the coming years into its own unique cultural centre.

Suomenlinna is one the largest sea fortresses in the world. It was founded in 1748 and it is located on six islands approximately one kilometre from Helsinki's city centre.
Suomenlinna is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site. The fortress can be reached from the Market Square in Helsinki in only 15 minutes by ferry or water bus.

The Ehrensvärd Museum is located on the original central courtyard of the fortress in the Commander's House. The first occupant of the building was Augustin Ehrensvärd (1710-1772), the founder of the Suomenlinna fortress. The Ehrensvärd Museum's collection includes paintings, furniture, weapons and ship models.

The Commander's House is a good example of how housing and the defensive system were connected under the same roof. The building's side wings also functioned as fortification bastions and it was possible to access the bastion terrepleins directly from the rooms. In case of an emergency the windows of the dining room as well as of the sleeping alcove could be used as crenels from which the main entrance to the fortress, the Artillery Bay, could be defended. The building was used as the commander's residence until 1855, when it lost its southern wing in the Crimean War.

The museum was opened in 1930.
