From October, 2005 the exposition of the Archaeological and Historical Museum of Kernavë is closed. The building of museum is under the reconstruction. Renovated exposition would-be open in autumn, 2009. For further information please visit www.kernave.org
We invite you to visit Cultural Reserve of Kernave – unique complex of archeological and historical recources. Excursions in the territory of Reserve are arranged from 10.00 to 17.30 (April–October) every day, except Sunday and Monday. Archaeological collection;
Numismatic collection; Historic-ethnographic collection; Writing collection; Photography collection. The reserve and its protective zone contain 48 historical and archaeological monuments including a five-mound defense complex, the biggest of its kind in Lithuania. Exhibition Exhibits displayed in 13 stands show the history of Kernave from prehistoric times until the end of the 18th century. The first stand is devoted to the history of Kernave and to its investigation. The archaeological chronicle of the prehistory of Kernave illustrated by artifacts from the Stone Age, the Iron Age and the early Middle Ages is on display. Here one can find a map of the archaeological reservation, portraits of the first researches, a small sculpture The Thundered of Kernave (found in Kernave in the 19th century, part of a chandelier, 13th century, Lower Saxony), an impressive 19th century photograph of the mounds made by A. Cehovitius, and explanatory text. |
