Maintained in its original style, the museum exudes the atmosphere that must have been tangible at the beginning of the last century. Nothing has been changed here since 1931. The division of the museum into ethnological and natural history sections actually stems from that time, when missionaries brought exhibits to Steyl from all over the world. The purpose of the museum was to give their contemporaries information and insight into distant lands and cultures. It has been preserved for our times as an impressive wonderland full of curiosities.
A visit to the Mission Museum can be combined with a visit to the Park with grottoes and St. Michael's double church. |

The predecessor of the actual farmstead built in 1859 was already mentioned as "De Locht" in 1423. It has been restored to its original state as closely as possible. You will see a kitchen, the "best" room, the mezzanine room and the cellar, a stable and barns where agricultural implements and tools are exhibited. Several old crafts are also shown: a small bakery in which bread is regularly baked in the traditional way, a poultry-house and a smithy. The farm is surrouded by an old-fashioned flower-, kitchen- and herbs-garden.
The north of Limburg is Holland's most important region for the production of both asparagus and mushrooms. The museum shows the old and modern methods of cultivating these products. Historical, biological, economic and culinary aspects are also dealt with. |

The Stedelijk Museum Roermond is housed in a neogotical building from 1853 designed by Pierre Cuypers. It displays an imaginative range of contemporary and historical fine art, amongst others works of the Roermond arstists Henry Luyten, Joep Nicolas and of course Pierre Cuypers. Archaeological artefacts found in the town dating from prehistorical to late medieval times.

Museum het Domein is a relative young museum for contemporary art and urban history and archaeology. The Contemporary Art Department centres on the international avant-garde, with a distinct emphasis on photography, video and cross-over art. The Urban History & Archaeology Department takes a cultural anthropological approach to the region’s past and present. It also houses the museum’s permanent collection of archaeological and historical artefacts.

The young (1995) and impressive building by Italian architect Aldo Rossi is a landmark in the new and international known Ceramic-district in Maastricht.
The museum houses two main collections: The collection of medieval to 18th century art is divided into three main groups: medieval sculpture, paintings by Southern Netherlandish and Italian masters from before 1650, and 15th and 16th century German painting and sculpture. Pieter Brueghel the Younger is the highlight of this collection. The collection of contemporary art covers a select number of artists. The museum also houses a number of smaller collections, including Maastricht earthenware and silver, Limburg archeological finds, Maastricht pottery and Maasland statues. |
