Museums of the Mediterranean

As we apprehend the particular history of the children
represented in this collection, —and each of their des-
tinies will have been unique and many may have been
exceptional— it becomes obvious that there is no room
for the formulation of generalisations. We cannot deter-
mine whether children received more or less affection in
any given historical period, or whether there were forms
of behaviour more typical in one country than another.
It is obvious, too, that these princes and princesses ex-
perienced a childhood utterly different from what we
understand today by that term. It is however certain,
that these little faces, emerging from the past, perfectly
express the fleeting nature and the enigma of childhood.

            General information

The museum can be reached from Alcudia (fol-
low the signs from the town center). Sa Bassa
Blanca Museum is situated in a protected natu-
ral area, eight minutes from the town of Alcudia
and 50 minutes from Palma de Mallorca airport.
            There is no public transport.
These signs will lead you out of the town, in the
            direction of "Malpas".
Arriving at the bar called "Bodega del Sol", turn
90° to the right, following the signposts. An as-
phalted road leads through fields and farms in
the direction of "Coll Baix", then becomes a sim-
ple rural road (Cami de la Muntanya) through the
forest. The entrance to the Foundation is clearly
signalled. Stop the car on the white line in front
the gate and it will open automatically.
