"The Mining Museum was founded in 1773 by Catherine II. It is situated in the Historical building which was erected 1806-1811 after the design of Russian archtect A.Voronikhin. The collections of the Mining Museum occupy 22 halls (2, 668 sqm). More than 230,000 specimens of minerals (including natural and artificial), rocks, ores, fossils; approximately 350 names of meteorites are are stored here. Most of them are from old classical localities, some of specimens are unique. The Mining Museum conserves the first Russian collection of historical mining technique in models of the 19-20th century and an outstanding collection of edged weapons (Zlatoust Arms Factory)." "Ivan P. Pavlov Memorial museum was opened in 1949 on the occasion of Pavlov`s 100-anniversary. The Museum is located in the apartment in which this great scientist lived for the last 18 years of life? from 1918 to 1936/ The whole interior of this apartment is preserving the atmosphere not only of Pavlov`s family but also the entire epoch. It represents an authentic example of the mode of life of Russian intelligentsia of that time.
The Memorial complex includes the study room, bedroom, the hall and the dinning room. Of a particular interest to visitors are rare books, paintings, unique collections of insects composed by Ivan Pavlov himself.
The lecture hall presents a popular-science exposition that illustrates life and creativity of the first Russian Nobel Prize winner and his famous physiological school. On the occasion of various jubilee dates, temporal expositions are also arranged here which present the most interesting items from the Museum Fund." (Russian Museums)

"The collection of our Museum is one of the most ancient in Russia (it was founded in 1785). These unique collections were formed by such outstanding scientists as I.Georgy, D.Sokolov, D.Mendeleev, V.Vernadsky, etc. The entire collection of the Museum consists of about 39000 spesimens representing examples of about 870 of the known mineral spesimens. The display area contains about 2000 spesimens. All othersare housed on the different collections, wich are available for study and research: systematic mineral collection; mineral association; Genesis of mineral; Meteorites; Gemstones; Artificial minerals; Mineralogy of Russia and of the former USSR.
