Öffnungszeiten/Opening hours
The museum is in the starting phase and open in the moment only during exhibitions.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Only four per cent of the art exhibited worldwide in museums is made by female artists. The general public is familiar with Frans Hals, but has never heard of Judith Leyster. This is odd, considering that the works of one artist were regularly attributed to the other and vice versa.

Sculptor Auguste Rodin is known to many, but what about his female counterpart Camille Claudel? Who has heard of Leonora Carrington, Suzannne Valadon, Valentine Prax, Marianne van der Heijden or Dora Dolz?

The flow of information about art made by women to the general public stagnates. There are countless prejudices and to date the works of female artists are hard to find in museums. Thousands of museums are dedicated to the history and art of male artists, and only a few museums are dedicated to the art of women. Not one of them in the Netherlands.

The FemArtMuseum Initiative wants to change that.

How can we upgrade the quality work by female artists? That is the central focus in the FemArtMuseum, a museum in the process of formation where top-class art by famous and less well-known female artists, and 4% male artists will be exhibited. Art through the ages, from the city of Amsterdam, and work of international quality. Paintings as well as sculptures, photography, video, film, installations, textile art, paper art, jewellery, performance, theatre, music, and literature deserve a place in the FemArtMuseum.

A museum at a central location in Amsterdam, with a substantial permanent collection, innovative exhibitions and affordable galleries. A museum with an auditorium for lectures, recitals, theatrical and musical performances, films. A documentation centre with a library, a printing press, museum shop, café and a crèche. And with room for studios around the museum.

To realize our plans, we are looking for housing, sponsors, and investors. And of course lots of manpower. If you have something to offer in any one of these areas, please contact us.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The apartment building by Michel de Klerk, which has been nicknamed the Ship, is renowned worldwide. The building resembles a bizarre art form. Its appearance is unconventional from all angles. The exterior exudes an air of festivity and consists of bright orange bricks, decked with minarets and other highlights. Designed in 1919, the building contains 102 homes for the working class, a small meeting hall and a post office.
A visit to the carefully designed interior is quite an experience. The building also features the exhibition 'Poste Restante, de Amsterdamse School', which answers questions such as: What were the special circumstances that turned Amsterdam into a Mecca for public housing, and what is the cultural-historical value of the Amsterdam School.
The museum provides access to a restored working class house, the exhibition on the Amsterdam School's sources of inspiration and an opportunity to see Michel de Klerk's world-famous tower.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
Multatuli is the pseudonym of Eduard Douwes Dekker (1820-1887). After 18 years of civil service in the Dutch East Indies, he returned to Europe in 1856 a disillusioned man. The way the natives were treated by their own as well as by the Dutch rulers offended him so much that he resigned after a public conflict. In his novel Max Havelaar he recorded his experiences. Multatuli became a sort of national conscience, inspiring emancipatory movements such as freethinkers, socialists and anarchists.
The museum is located in the birthplace of the author. The exhibition consists of a permanent display of personal objects, and a thematic part that changes every year. The permanent exhibition comprises his writing desk, his personal library in a display cabinet, his globe, his pendulum, his travelling case and the red chaise longue in which he died. There are also some portraits and engravings, and the ornamented urn in which Mulatuli's ashes were kept for years.
The museum also contains an extensive documentation centre with over 3,000 books, over 1,000 brochures, about 10,000 cuttings and over 1,000 pictures, images and posters, partly dating back to Multatuli's lifetime.

Sammelschwerpunkte/Main collections
The Theater Instituut Nederland with the Netherlands Theater Museum is housed in five magnificent seventeenth-century buildings on one of the main canals in the historic center of Amsterdam. The entire complex of 4,400 m2 was renovated in the course of 1995 -1997.
Visitors to the exhibition ''Backstage'', an exhibition on making theatre, discover that a performance is built up from several disciplines. The six most important parts of theatre making are introduced: text, directing, play, costumes, scenery, light and sound.
Only one home theatre has survived in Europe and you can come and see it in the Theater Museum. After a thorough restauration the home theatre of Baron van Slingelandt - dating back to 1781 - is one of the top pieces of the collection of Theater Instituut Nederland.

The founder of the Biblical Museum was Leendert Schouten (1828-1905), a theological student in Utrecht, who started collecting at the age of 12 and opened the museum in 1851.
The two adjoining canal houses that accommodate the museum were built in 1660-1662 by the renowned Dutch architect Philip Vingboons. They also feature early 18th-century ceiling paintings by Jacob de Wit.
Archaeological discoveries, artefacts from ancient Egypt, centuries-old models of the temple of Solomon and Herod, religious objects from the Judeo-Christian tradition and even aromas bring Bible stories to life for visitors to the Biblical Museum. The collection of Bibles includes the oldest Bible printed in the Netherlands, dating from 1477, and a first edition of the 1637 Dutch Authorised Version.
